“Payment of Wages and Fringe Benefits” and “Youth Employment Standards” Rule Sets 2005-084 LG and 2005-088LG

The Department of Labor & Economic Growth, Wage & Hour Division has cancelled a public hearing set for January 19, 2006, and rescheduled the public hearing for Tuesday, December 20, 2005, in Conference Room B, General Office Building, 7150 Harris Drive, Lansing, MI 48913 on the First Floor at 10:00 a.m. The hearing will be held to receive public comments on proposed rules for payment of wages by stored value/payroll debit card and new penalties for prohibited conduct under the Youth Employment Standards Act.
The “Payment of Wages and Fringe Benefits” proposed rules are new rules, drafted to establish employee ownership rights in wages paid with stored value/payroll debit cards, allowed by MCL 408.476.
The “Youth Employment Standards” proposed rules are new rules to provide additional penalties for prohibited conduct of employers during the employment of minors.
These rules are promulgated by authority conferred on the Department of Labor & Economic Growth by authority conferred on the director of the department of labor and economic growth by sections 9 and 12 of 1978 PA 390 and Executive Reorganization Order Nos. 1996-2, 1997-12, 2002-1, and 2003-1,
MCL 408.479, 408.482, 445.2001, 421.94, and 445.2004, and 445.2011. and by authority conferred on the Department of Labor & Economic Growth by section 20 of 1978 PA 90 and Executive Reorganization Order Nos. 1996-2, 1997-12, 2002-1, and 2003-1, MCL 409.120, 445.2001, 421.94,
445.2004, and 445.2011 These rules will take effect immediately upon filing with the Secretary of State.
