Rule 1. (1) An employer sha ll ensur e that th e level of illum inat ion is adeq uat e as determ ined by th e director for th e ta sk being perform ed.
(2) O.H. ru les 4102 , 4103 , 4104 , an d 4105 ar e rescinded.
(3) This ru le repl aces O.H. ru les 4101 to 4105 .

Rule 1. With respe ct to pulpwood logging operat ions subject to O.H. rule 5006 , an employer sha ll ensur e that adeq uat e light ing is provided on roads an d tra ils if night work is necess ar y for pulpwood har vesting.

Rule 1. All of th e followi ng provisions apply to sawmill operat ions subject to O.H. rule 5005 .
(a) “Boom” mean s logs or timbers which ar e fastened togeth er end to end an d which ar e used to conta in float ing logs. The term includes enclosed logs.
(b) With respe ct to building facilities an d isolat ed equipment, both of th e followi ng provisions apply for genera l light ing:
(i) An employer sha ll ensur e that illum inat ion is provided an d designed to supply adeq uat e genera l an d local light ing to room s, buildings, an d work ar eas when in use.
(ii) The adequa cy an d effect iveness of illum inat ion will be determ ined using all of th e followin g factors:
(A) The quant ity of light in foot -can dle int ensity is su fficient for th e work being done.
(B) The qua lity of th e light is free from glar e, an d ha s corr ect direction, diffu sion, an d distr ibut ion.
(C) Sha dows an d extr eme contra sts ar e avoided or kept to a minimum .
(c) Work ar eas un der mills sha ll be as evenly sur faced as loca l con ditions perm it . Work ar eas un der mills sha ll not ha ve unn ecess ar y obstru ct ions an d sha ll ha ve light ing facilities in a ccor dan ce with American nat iona l stan dar d for industr ia l light ing A11.1-1965 , which is adopted by reference in th is ru le.
