    SOAHR 2007-022 NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

    DENTAL X-RAY INSTALLATIONS

     

    The Department of Community Health will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at 10:00

    a.m. at the Department of Community Health, 201 Townsend, 1st Floor, Conference Center Rooms B & C, Lansing, Michigan.

     

    The public hearing is being held to receive comments from interested persons on proposed new administrative rule, Dental X-Ray Installations. The proposed rules were designed to protect the operator from unnecessary radiation exposure. Hand-held x-ray systems are now available that have increased shielding in the tube housing and provide backscatter shields for operator protection. This rule will allow the use of hand-held portable dental x-ray units where a portable x-ray unit is normally necessary such as in nursing homes, home health care, or for special needs patients. The rule will still prohibit the routine use of hand-held dental x-ray systems in dental offices where fixed units normally provide a higher level of operator protection. The use of these hand-held units under the conditions specified in this proposed rule will not result in undue hazard to public health and safety or property and will actually enhance dental care for the uses specified in the rule.

     

    These rules are being promulgated under the authority conferred on the director of the department of community health by section 13521 of PA 368 of 1978, being MCL 333.13521 of the Michigan Compiled Laws and Executive Reorganization Order Nos. 1996-1, 1996-2, and 2003-01, being MCL 330.3101, 445.2001,and 445.2011. These rules are proposed to take effect immediately upon filing with the Secretary of State.

     

    Hearing comments may be presented in person, with written comments available at the time of presentation. Written comments also will be accepted at the following address or E-mail address until close of business August 21, 2007.  Address communications to:
