    Rule 86. (1) The teacher educat ion program for teachers of th e  m e nta lly  im p a ir ed STUD EN TS WITH MEN TAL IMPAIRMEN T sha ll include a minimum of 30 semester OR EQUIVALEN T hour s. I n a dd it ion t o th e r eq u ir e m e nt s of  R  340 .1781 ,  t The  teacher educat ion program for teachers of stu dent s with menta l impairm ent s sha ll include all of th e following:

    (a)                A minimum of 12 semester OR EQUI VALEN T hour s of spe cial sk ills an d kn owledge necess ar y for work ing  with  STUD EN TS  WITH  menta lly  im p a ir ed  s tu de nt s IMPAIRMEN T, including a ll of th e following:

    (i)                 The natur e of menta l deficiency.

     

     

    (ii)               Differ ent ia l curr iculum development an d teaching techn iques.

    (iii)             Basic com ponent s of lan gua ge development .

    (iv)             The basic sensory-neura l system an d it s relat ionship to learn ing an d development .

    (v)               Classr oom mana gement techn iques.

    (b)               A minimum  addition of 10 semester OR EQUIVALEN T hour s in th e development of com petency in th e followin g ar eas:

    (i)                 Ability to obse rve an d assess stu dent s, including all of th e followin g:

    (A)             The natur e of menta l deficiency. (B)       Differ ent ial curr iculum .

    (C)              Devel opment an d teaching techn iques.
