    Rule 99a. The teacher educat ion program for teachers of th e STUD EN TS WITH physically IMPAIRMEN T an d STUD EN TS WITH oth erwise  health  im p a ir ed IMPAIRMEN T  sha ll include  a  minimum  of 30  semester  OR  EQUIVALEN T  hour s.   I n a dd it ion t o th e r eq u ir e m e nt s of R 340 .1781 , t The teacher educat ion program for teachers of stu dent s with physically IMPAIRMEN T an d STUD EN TS  WITH  oth erwise  health impairm ent s sha ll include all of th e followin g:

    (a)                A minimum of 12 semester OR EQUI VALEN T hour s of spe cial sk ills an d techn iques for work ing with STUD EN TS WITH physically IMPAIRMEN T  an d  STUD EN TS  WITH oth erwise health im p a ir ed s tu de nt s IMPAIRMEN T, including a ll of th e following:

     

     

    (i)                 Medi cal aspects of temporar y an d perman ent physical disabilities of a wide var iety.

    (ii)               Impact of neur ological impairm ent s an d menta l r e tar d at ion IMPAIRM EN TS on learn ing.

    (iii)             Equipment an d techn iques of physical mana gement of STUD EN TS WITH physically IMPAIRMEN T an d STUD EN TS WITH oth erwise  health  im p a ir ed  s tu de nt s IMP AIRM EN T.

    (iv)             Meth ods an d mat erials for tra ining, obse rvat ion, an d assess ment of STUD EN TS WITH  physically  IMPAIRMEN T  an d  STUD EN TS  WITH   oth erwise   health   im p a ir ed s tu de nt s IMPAIRMEN T, including t echn iques for nonvocal commun icat ion.

    (b)               A  minimum  of  10 semester  OR  EQUIVALEN T  hour s  in  th e  development  of com petence in ALL OF th e followin g ar eas:

    (i)                 Ability to work as a member of a mu lt idisciplinar y E VALU ATIO N team which includes medical an d param edical personn el an d to supervise para pr ofessi ona l personn el.

    (ii)               Ability to develop an d implement an instru ct iona l plan for stu dent s, including th ose con fined to home or a hospita l.

    (iii)             Ability to explain th e con dition of th e stu dent an d th e con dition's impact on learn ing an d to serve as a resour ce person for STUD EN TS WITH physically IMPAIRM EN T an d STUD EN TS WITH oth erwise health im p a ir ed s tu de nt s IMPAIRMEN T with in  r egu lar GENE RAL an d spe cial educat ion classes .

    (iv)             Ability to coun sel stu dent s regar ding all of th e following:

    (A)             Human  sexua lit y.

    (B)              Home, fam ily, an d commun ity living. (C)       Car eer selection.

    (D)      The use of loca l, stat e, an d nat iona l resour ces.

    (v)               Ability to develop, implement , an d rein for ce spe cial instru ct ion in all of th e followin g life sk ill ar eas:

    (A)             Self-h elp sk ills.

    (B)              Recreat ion an d leisur e t ime activities.

    (C)              Commun ity tran sportat ion an d mobility. (D)       Re cru itm e nt .

    (E )(D) Use of persona l aids.

    (vi)             Ability to un dersta nd th e role an d fun ct ion of relat ed service personn el an d to work in con jun ct ion with th em in th e development an d implementat ion of spe cial instru ct iona l program s or techn iques necess ar y t o a FOR STUD EN TS WITH physically IMPAIRM EN T an d STUD EN TS WITH oth erwise health im p a ir ed in d ivi d ua l IMP AIRM EN T.
