A licensed nursing care facility shall, at the facility's request, be certified by the department as an intermediate care facility when it is determined by the department, on the basis of facility survey, inspection, investigation, and evaluation that the facility complies with applicable state and federal statutes, rules, and other standards for intermediate care facilities. Such federal regulations are generally available from the Health Care Financing Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, D.C. 20024, and the Bureau of Health Care Services, Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Lansing, MI 48909.
