  • (1) A new or existing congregate facility shall be equipped with an approved electrically operated,   closed   circuit,   self-supervised, local fire alarm system

    that has suitable signaling devices which will communicate the alarm of fire to the personnel on each floor of the building. A system shall also have approved actuating stations that are suitably located on each floor and in the basement so that it is not necessary to travel more than 100 feet from any room to reach a station on the same floor.

    (2)   A telephone or other suitable means of communicating  an   alarm  of fire to the fire department shall be provided. A pay station is not an approved means of sending an alarm.

    (3)   An alarm shall be tested every 6 months and a record  maintained   of the test.

    (4)   The electrical circuit that serves a fire alarm device shall be installed on a separate circuit and, in new construction, shall be installed in nonflexible metallic conduit and fused ahead  of  the   main entrance switch.
