All elevators and escalators may be monitored from a remote location. Monitoring shall consist of passing information from the elevator control to a remote location for the collection of information. A device shall not have the capability to adjust, alter, change or reset any switch, parameter, or system of the elevator control from any location except the corresponding car, hoistway, machine room, lobby panel, or fire command center. The device shall not be capable of bypassing or resetting any safety or electrical protective device. The monitoring means may be used to initiate car and hall landing calls or to secure floors from access. Information collected shall be made available to the department upon request.
