Section 2.7 of the ASME A17.1 code is amended to read as follows:

2.7. A machinery space outside the hoistway containing an electric driving machine and an elevator controller shall be a machine room. The electric driving machine shall be located in a machinery space within the elevator hoistway or outside the hoistway in an elevator machine room. A controller shall be accessible only from a machinery space, machine room, control room, or hoistway.
