Section 5.4.8 of the ANSI A10.4 standard is amended to read as follows:

5.4.8. (1) A personnel hoist shall be installed not less than 10 feet from any other lifting or lowering apparatus except other personnel hoists.

(2) A hoistway shall not be located either partially or wholly over sidewalks or passageways.

(3) If tower cranes are installed such that the boom or trolley may go over or into the 10-foot restricted area, then the personnel hoist shall be unoccupied anytime the boom or trolley passes over the restricted area. The evacuation of the personnel hoist shall be the responsibility of the crane operator and the general contractor.
