    Rule 97. A teacher of physical educat ion for han d ica pped in d ivi d ua ls STUD EN TS WITH DIS ABILITI ES sha ll possess a valid Michigan teaching cert ificat e with  a pp r ova l AN EN DORS EMEN T in physical educat ion, spe cial educat ion, or both , an d sha ll com plete all th e following:

     

     

    (a)                A minimum of 9 semester OR EQUIVALEN T hour s or 12 t e rm h our s in special educat ion cour ses leading to th e acquisition of all of th e followin g com petencies:

    (i)                 Knowledge of th e cau ses of var ious han d ica pp in g DIS ABILIT Y conditions an d th e effect s of th ose con ditions on learn ing.

    (ii)               Ability  to  assess  physical  educat ion   sk ills   of   individua ls   exhibiting   var ious han d ica pp in g con d it ion s DIS ABILITI ES.

    (iii)             Knowledge of special educat ion teaching models w h ich THAT employ assess ment - prescriptive techn iques.

    (iv)             Ability to use commun ity an d sta ff  resour ces  with in  th e  special  educat ion environm ent .

    (b)               A minimum of 9 semester OR EQUIVALEN T hour s or 12 t e rm h our s in special physical educat ion cour ses leading to th e acquisition of all of th e followin g com petencies:

    (i)                 Ability to write in beha viora l term s an d assess instru ct iona l objectives for physical educat ion for th e han d ica pped STUD EN TS WITH DIS ABILITI ES.

    (ii)               Knowledge   of   motor   chara cteristics,   beha viors,   an d  development   sequences ass ociat ed with var ious han d ica pp in g con d it ion s DIS ABILITI ES in relat ionship to norma l motor development .

    (iii)             Knowledge of anat omy, kinesiology, an d neur ology w h ich THAT perta ins to norma l an d abnorma l motor contr ol an d sensory motor int egrat ion for teaching physical educat ion to STUD EN TS WITH severely han d ica pped DIS ABILITI ES an d STUD EN TS WHO ARE nonam bulat ory s tu de nt s.

    (iv)             Ability to adapt teaching meth ods, mat erials, an d techn iques for physical an d motor fitn ess , gymna sium use, fun dam enta l motor sk ills, aquat ic sk ills, dan ce, individua l an d group gam es, an d lifetime sport s sk ills for th e needs of th e han d ica pped STUD EN TS WITH DIS ABILITI ES.

    (v)               Ability to ana lyze, adapt, an d implement physical educat ion curr iculum in providing appropriat e program s for a var iety of han d ica pp in g con d it ion s DIS ABILITI ES.

    (c)                A directed field expe rience in teaching physical educat ion IN A SCHOOL SETTI NG with han d ica pped pe r s on s STUD EN TS WITH DIS ABILITI ES in a s ch ool se tt in g.

    (D) AS OF THE EFFE CTI VE DATE OF THE SE RULES, A TEACHE R WHO HAS RECEIVED FU LL APP ROVAL AS A TEACHE R OF PH YSIC AL EDUCATIO N FOR HANDIC APPE D INDI VIDU ALS SHALL BE DEE MED TO HAVE FU LL APP ROVAL AS A TEACHE R OF PH YSIC AL EDUCATIO N FOR STUD EN TS WITH DIS ABILITI ES, IF THE TEACHE R POSS ESS ES A VALID MIC HIGAN TEACHING CERTI FICATE.
