Rule 99c. (1) The teacher educat ion program for teachers of
th eSTUD EN TS WITH hear ingim p a ir edIMPAIRMEN T sha ll include a minimum of 30 semester OR EQUIVALEN T hour s.I n a dd it ion t o th e r eq u ir e m e nt s lis t ed in R 340 .1781 , tThe teacher educat ion program for teachers of th e STUD EN TS WITH hear ingim p a ir edIMPAIRM EN T sha ll meet th e coun cil on educat ion of th e deaf stan dar ds or sha ll, at a minimum , include 30 semester OR EQUIVALEN T hour s relat ing to th e following ar eas:(a) Lan gua ge an d linguistics.
(b) Audiology an d spee ch science.
(c) Psychology.
(d) Educat ion.
(2) Stu dent s sh all com plete a program that is des igned to develop th e followin g com petencies:
(a) Knowledge of linguistics, th eories of lan gua ge development , an d th e var ious spe cial meth ods used to assess an d develop lan gua ge com petence.
(b) Ability to ut ilize an individua l diagnostic pr ofile of th e stu dent 's expressive an d receptive lan gua ge sk ills.
(c) Ability to int egrat e lan gua ge development with th e teaching of En glish, math emat ics, socia l stu dies, science, an d oth er academics.
(d) Ability to use var ious an d combined modes , manua l an d ora l, in both expressive an d receptive commun icat ion with STUD EN TS WITH hear ing
im p a ir ed s tu de nt sIMP AIRM EN T.(e) Knowledge of th e anat omy, physiology, an d path ology of th e organ s of spee ch an d hear ing.
(f) Knowledge of au diological assess ment in format ion an d it s applicat ion to th e individua lized educat ion program of a STUD EN T WITH hear ing
im p a ir ed s tu de ntIMP AIRM EN T.(g) Knowledge of persona l an d group am plificat ion systems, including th eir basic ma int enan ce.
(h) Ability to in cor porat e and teach appropriat e pr oced ur e to ma ximize th e use of spee ch, spee ch reading, an d au ditory sk ills.
(i) Ability to use systemat ic obse rvat iona l techn iques for esta blishing baseline data , evaluat ing problem ar eas, an d for docum ent ing an d assess ing progress .
(j) Knowledge of th e psychological an d sociologica l impact of severe/pr ofoun d hear ing impairm ent , including in format ion about th e
