  • It is the duty of the chief of police and the officers of the police department to enforce the street traffic regulations of this governmental unit and all state vehicle laws that are applicable to street traffic in this governmental unit, including making arrests for

    certain traffic violations, issuing citations for civil infractions, investigating accidents, cooperating with the city traffic engineer and other officials of this governmental unit in the administration of the traffic laws and in developing ways and means to improve traffic conditions, and carrying out those duties specially imposed by this code and other traffic ordinances of this governmental unit.
