  • An escalator, to be considered a component of means of egress, shall be fully enclosed above the ground floor and equipped with fire doors containing fusible links to protect the escalator area against the passage of flame, smoke, and gases in the event of fire. An escalator being operated in the direction contrary to normal exit travel shall not be considered a means of egress.
